NiCOLAI is encounters between art forms and cultural expressions.

The complex consists of five independent houses, but also functions as one cultural whole.

The frames signal both quality and innovation – something that is repeated in all the houses' offers.

At NiCOLAI, we cultivate diversity, creativity and new encounters between arts and cultural expressions.

NiCOLAI Cinema and Café

In NiCOLAI Cinema you can experience a wide range of artistic quality films, classics and mainstream films for both children, young people and adults.

The cinema, which is run by volunteers, offers a number of cultural events such as lectures, debate evenings and theme days - and through collaboration with the Cinematheque, a selected cult film or classic is shown every other Wednesday. Start or end your cinema tour with something delicious in the café, which offers drinks and snacks in cozy surroundings. You are also welcome to take a cup of coffee or a glass of wine into the cinema hall while you watch the film. The café is open one hour before the first performance and until approximately ½ hour after the last performance has started (between morning and afternoon performances, however, it will be closed).

Kolding City Archives

Kolding Stadsarkiv is the municipality's memory and a treasure trove of original documents, photographs, maps, memories and knowledge about life in Kolding municipality since the birth of democracy in the mid-1800s. Our main task is to open up our collections so that everyone has the opportunity to use local history actively. At the same time, you can become part of history yourself by handing in materials to the archive. Because everyone has a place in history.

NiCOLAI for Children

Climb the ropes in the Jungle, build fantastic castles with giant pillows, or dance to the music that fills the room with energy and joy. Unleash creativity in our creative workshops, where children and adults can draw, paint, build and create side by side. Explore, experiment and create together – because here the process is just as important as the result. Take a quiet moment and relax in the cozy attic rooms upstairs, or step into the Theater Cave and bring your own stories to life with face painting and unique costumes. At NiCOLAI for children, imagination leads the way - and there is room for everyone to join in.

NiCOLAI Art & Design

NiCOLAI Art & Design is the exhibition venue that offers everyone interested the opportunity for a free art experience in a professional setting. The beautiful and bright exhibition rooms are the setting for 6 – 8 exhibitions each year with professional art, design and handicrafts. You will find the exhibition at the address Skolegade 2C - in the same building as NiCOLAI for children.

Building 5

Building 5 is an open cultural center for anyone over 15 who wants to create, learn, geek out and be creative with others. Here there is room for ideas, experiments and community - regardless of whether you are a beginner or a super geek. We run ongoing courses and events where you can throw yourself into e.g. leather, knitting, sewing, 3D printing and much more.

NiCOLAI Scene

The building, which was once the Gymnasium, today houses the NiCOLAI Stage, where concerts are held with both professionals and amateurs. In addition, the stage is also used for lectures, children's theatre, tango evenings and much more.

The farm in NiCOLAI

The old school yard has long been a unique space in the city, which is filled every year with markets, games, concerts, workshops and urban space experiments. From the summer of 2026, the courtyard will be transformed into Denmark's first GAME Street Hub - an urban meeting place with a focus on movement, creativity and community, especially for young people.
