Everyone can experience Fredericia

Fredericia has three special hiking trails that have been approved as accessible hiking trails in collaboration with the Danish Centre for Disability Studies.

Experience Fredericia’s beautiful nature

Fredericia’s three accessible trails take you through some of the most beautiful nature in Fredericia. You can experience water and beaches, forests and meadows, as well as areas rich in wildlife and plant life. All you have to do is set off!

Round trip at Østerstrand and the Citadel / Strandstien

On the hiking trail at Østerstrand beach and the Citadel, you can experience the beautiful Østerstrand beach and the Little Belt. The trail is also known as Strandstien.

The trail follows the coast and takes you past Østerstrand’s circular bridge, the accessible bathing area where beach wheelchairs can be borrowed, and the special bathing facility called The Mermaid Flutes. The Mermaid Flutes functions as a bathing ramp for people with visual impairments and others looking for a safe bathing experience, while also serving as a beautiful work of art in the Little Belt.

Remember to look out across the Little Belt along the way – on this stretch, you can often spot harbour porpoises, the Little Belt’s very own whale!

The trail has a firm and even surface and is free of steps and stairs.

There is accessible parking and an accessible toilet next to the parking lot.

Round trip in Nyskov Forest

Nyskov is one of Fredericia’s newly established forests. The area is home to a rich variety of wildlife and plant life and is a peaceful oasis that makes it easy to forget that you are actually in the middle of a major transport hub.

The trail has a firm granite surface and gravel paths and is free of steps and stairs. The surface may be uneven.

There is a gravel parking area.

Wheelchair-accessible round trip at Trelde Næs

On this trail, you can experience beautiful Trelde Næs, one of Denmark’s official Nature Canon sites!

The protected area is home to rare plant and animal species and offers the opportunity to experience forests, meadows, marshland and beaches. The trail passes Trelde Næs Beach and continues up through the forest, giving you plenty of opportunities to experience the area’s unique character.

The trail follows gravel and asphalt paths and is wheelchair accessible. The surface is firm and even, and the trail has no steps or stairs. There is accessible parking and an accessible toilet at the car park.

The trails have been selected as part of the Danish outdoor initiative “Alle ud i naturen” (“Everyone Outdoors”), which focuses on making nature experiences accessible to everyone and promoting accessible trails.
